Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
We visited Baltimore City public schools (Hampstead Hill Academy and Windsor Hills Elementary/Middle) where we shared our passion for neuroscience with over 160 students through interactive demonstrations. The students explored neuronal signaling in an invertebrate system (using Backyard Brains spiker box), participated in human-to-human muscle signaling (Backyard Brains human-human EMG interface) and examined brains from a variety of species to learn more about neuroanatomy. Our volunteers, which included graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, also spoke about their own research and why they love science.
