Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The Instructional Leadership course in the Master’s in School Administration program at UNCC incorporates David Sousa’s How the Brain Learns textbook into the second half of the course, the introduction of which occurs during Brain Awareness Week. The objective is to show future principals how critical an understanding and awareness of how the brain learns is to instructional leadership. Students consistently report on evaluations that the brain awareness components of the course are their favorite and most salient in the course.

The students, all future principals in PK-12 schools, incorporate this learning into their schools. The reach of the result of the content is widespread, although we do not publicize this beyond the university and the participating schools.

It is occuring to me as I type this report, that providing you with the email addresses of all of the participating students may be beneficial to them and to you. I will look for an opportunity to do this when I teach this course again in the fall.

PK-12 teachers consistently find this information more useful than the traditional Models of Teaching (which we also include in this class). Getting it into the hands of the PK-12 teaching community may help them to help others.
