Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

The Brain Awareness Week was in hybrid format and took place on 20th and 21th March 2021. The theme was BRAIN HEALTH with subtheme Mental health awareness: Keep you brain health. We live in a world full of toxins that harm our health and endanger our well-being. Neurodegenerative diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders have been on the increase especially in Niger Delta, Nigeria with huge pollution. With the recent outbreak of COVID 19 many folks have developed mental health challenges. Dr Chinna Orish , the coordinator delivered a lecture on mental health as well as measures in taking care of the brain. She laid emphasis on beneficial effect of nutrition, exercise, proper life style and sleep in order to curb this ugly trend. Dr. Eberechi Wogu charged the young folks the need to take up a career in Neuroscience. A brain exhibition was masterminded by Smart Oparaugo a member of Youth Neuroscience Association (YNAN). The attendees were taught different parts of the brain, their functions and clinical correlation with respect to lifestyle. They had a touch of the brain. The second day was marked by virtual lecture on the same topic Obinna Promise Okoli, coordinator of Youth Neuroscience Association Nigeria (YNAN) Chukwemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University chapter organized a BAW outreach in Anambra State among the market women on the topic: Effect of stress on the brain. Taken together, the whole exercise was quite phenomenal and glamorous. Folks were so excited with the wealth of knowledge they gained and they yearned for more of such outreach.
